Connie Aungst Obituary

Col (retired) Constance L. Aungst “Connie” was a flight nurse with the 140th Air Transport Squadron starting in 1965. She was the Chief Flight Nurse during 1968 when the 140th Aero Medical Airlift Group was mobilized to speed seriously sick or wounded service personnel to hospitals around the world during the Vietnam War. Her group flew 510 missions, and airlifted 11,947 patients in seven months. Connie accumulated 4,204 hours of flight time in 16 types of military aircraft. She was one our heroines and was elected to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard Hall of Fame in 2009.

The Experience of a Lifetime

After serving in the Air Force for 4 years active duty, 12 years air force reserve and 25 years air national guard with the 193rd, for a total of 41 years of miitary service, I must say I miss the wonderful friendships and associations I made during my military career.  I was discharged as a Senior Master Sergeant Loadmaster having accumulated 7,000 flying hours by my retirement date of 1989.  The experience of a lifetime!!
