Sixty-five years and still going strong! From its beginning in 1947 with the F-51 Mustang at Reading Airfield as the 148th Fighter Squadron, through the transition to the C-46 Commando and C-47 Dakota and the move to Olmsted Air Force Base, then the Harrisburg International Airport to the electronic missions of the EC-121 Coronet Solo, EC-130 Volant Solo and Commando Solo. One common theme connects all of the current and former members of the 193rd Special Operations Wing, an intense dedication to the mission! That dedication has earned our Wing 15 Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, two with a “V” for combat valor as well as a Meritorious Unit Award. Our Wing continues to serve the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and our nation with distinction. It is with great pride that we present this history book as a testimony of the courage and devotion of the nearly 1,800 men and women of the 193rd SOW.
