Air National Guard Heritage Painting
We are in the process of gathering information and images relevant to a specific period of time in our Wing’s history in order to submit a package to the National Guard Heritage Painting Committee in the hopes we would be selected for the next ANG Heritage painting.
We are looking for anyone who might have stories to tell and pictures to share of any actions during the period of 23 September 2001 to 30 September 2002. This is the time frame for which the Wing was awarded our 12th Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (with Valor).
The citation for the award follows:
“The 193d Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious service from 23 September 2001 to 30 September 2002. During this period, 193d Special Operations Wing aircrew personnel flew unarmed aircraft over 2,500 hours in combat, broadcasting information operations in psychological warfare missions and the full spectrum of electronic warfare, while engaging opposing Taliban and Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. Ground crew personnel generated 308 consecutive aircraft combat launches, resulting in the surrender of numerous Taliban combatants. Additional 193d Special Operations Wing personnel engaged in combat and combat support opperations in the War on Terrorism throughout Southwest Asia, Europe, and the United States of America. During this yearlong engagement, 193d Special Operations Wing personnel braved hostile fire from anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, and numerous other lethal unconventional warfare methods. The professionalism, dedication, and extraordinary heroism demonstrated by members of the 193d Special Operations Wing, are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service. The distinctive accomplishments of the members of the 193d Special Operations Wing reflect great credit upon themselves and the United States Air Force.”
As you can see the award encompasses the entire wing and we are interested in all stories and pictures. If you have any pleaes let me know, if you know of a retiree that might have pictures have them give me a call.
If there are any questions please feel free to contact the Public Affair office.
