In July of 1970 the 193rd Tactical Electronic Warfare Group started a deployment to Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand to participate in an exercise named "Commando Buzz". For excellent performance in this exercise the 193rd was awarded the first of our 16 Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards and the first was received with a "Combat V Device" for Valor.

Seventy years ago today, the 347th Fighter Squadron—the predecessors of today's 193rd Special Operations Squadron, @[200923618834:274:193rd Special Operations Wing]—provided air cover over Alba, Italy, to help the French army secure the island for the Allies. After the successful invasion, the squadron operated in southern France before returning to Italy where they spent the remainder of the war.
